Name: Dr. Houston Wilson
Research
As an agricultural entomologist, my work is primarily focused on the development of integrated pest management strategies that can reduce the use and/or impacts of insecticides in orchards and vineyards. Reducing pesticide use is important for the conservation of pollinators, especially honeybees, which are critical to almond production, one of the primary crops that I focus on in my work. As part of CIBER, my research and extension program has direct implications for honeybee health. As an off-campus faculty based at the UC Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center (near Fresno), we are establishing an additional CIBER apiary to facilitate studies on the performance of survivor honeybees within our unique geographic region, complimenting on-going efforts in Southern California.
